Lahore, Jan 22, 2024: Pakistan Railways Police during the year 2024 registered 3612 cases against those who violated the laws in railway jurisdiction and arrested 4030 accused in this context. Furthermore, 766 accused were arrested and 607 cases were registered against those who were involved in the theft of railway material and railway property of worth about Rs 10 million was recovered from them. Similarly, 1085 cases were registered against those who illegally encroached on railway land and 1084 accused were arrested in these cases. Likewise, in collaboration with railway administration, various joint operations against illegal occupants of railway land were carried out in which precious land of railway of about 471 acres of land worth Rs 6539 million was retrieved; the railway land comprises of 60 acres commercial, 394 acres agricultural and 18 acres residential property, respectively.
251 cases were registered against drug dealers and smugglers and 261 accused were arrested. During the year 2024, about 195 kg of drugs and 441 bottles of liquor were recovered from them. Drugs include 150 kg Hashish, 25 kg cannabis, 9.5 kg ice, 4.6 kg heroin, 6.2 kg opium and 8 Morphine tablets. 71 cases were registered against illegal hawkers on trains and platforms and a fine of Rs 16000 was deposited in the National treasury.
In the year 2024, around 68 judicial and police absconders were arrested. Similarly, 69 cases were registered against those who attempted to smuggle and transport illegal arms through trains and 68 accused were arrested in this regard. Arms that were confiscated by PR Police include; 66 pistols with 59 magazines, 7 rifles, 3 knife/dagger and 4812 bullets.
According to the details, during the year 2024, all eight divisions of the Railways Police registered 3612 cases. In this context, 630 in Peshawar Division, 675 Rawalpindi, 1092 Lahore, 188 Mughalpura (Workshops), 505 Multan, 158 Sukkur, 325 Karachi, and 39 cases in Quetta division were registered.
Help Centers of Railways police established at all major railway stations across the country have also performed outstandingly during the year 2024 by safely handing over about 1000 runaway/lost children to the heirs and welfare institutions after the fulfilment of legal requirements. Apart from this, 2300 numbers of lost luggage of worth around Rs 30.41 million were handed over to the passengers. About 17000 passengers were also provided with other facilities in the form of first aid, wheel chairs and stretchers.
It may be noted that under the unprecedented, invaluable and unwavering command of the current IG Railways Police, there has been an improvement in the efficiency and professionalism of the Railways Police in the year 2024, whereby the Railways Police have been able to prevent crimes at all railway stations and on trains. By taking much required action against the criminal elements on the railway premises, the PR Police have strengthened the confidence and brought smile to the lips of millions of passengers.
