IG Railways Police Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan Assumes Charge; Warmly Welcomed on Arrival
Lahore: IG Railways Police Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan has assumed charge as the 29th Inspector General of Railways Police. Upon his arrival at the Central Police Office Railways, he was warmly received by officers and CPO staff. A smartly turned-out contingent of Railways Police presented a guard of honor to the IG. He laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial and offered prayers (Fateha).
DIG Admin Syed Hammad Haider briefed the IG Railways Police on departmental matters. The IG stated that it is an honor for him to be appointed to the Railways Police and that he is grateful to Allah for this responsibility. He expressed his commitment to making the Railways Police one of the best forces in Pakistan and said all possible efforts would be made to upgrade the department.
He further stated that the Railways Police would be prepared for future challenges, with a strong focus on digitalization and improving the quality of police services. Railways police stations, posts, and the Railways Police Training School Walton will be upgraded and granted the status of a college. Currently, more than 1,000 personnel—including Sub-Inspectors (Legal), ASIs, Head Constables, and recruits—are undergoing basic and departmental promotional training courses there. Additionally, upper courses for Inspectors’ promotion are also conducted at the Walton training school; therefore, granting it college status is essential.
The IG highlighted the severe lack of employee welfare initiatives in the Railways Police. In the past, financial assistance for martyrs’ families and employees was provided through income generated from a petrol pump and marriage hall attached to the Saghir Railways Police Lines, which has since been withdrawn. He said approval would be sought from the Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi—who has always been active in supporting the welfare of martyrs’ families and employees—to restore this income for their benefit.
The IG reaffirmed that alongside employee welfare, good performance would be recognized. Ensuring the security of railway passengers will remain the top priority of the Railways Police. He emphasized that pickpocketing, smuggling, and black marketing of tickets will be strictly curbed, and stringent measures will be taken to prevent such crimes. Theft of railway materials and illegal encroachments on railway land will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He added that the Railways Police is a great force with a proud history and many sacrifices. Strict action will also be taken against corruption and corrupt elements within the department.
It is noteworthy that IG Railways Police Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan belongs to the 22nd Common of the Police Service of Pakistan and joined as an ASP in 1994. During his tenure as RPO Rawalpindi, he was awarded the Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal (QPM) for outstanding performance. He has also served in various districts as District Police Officer and has held positions in the FIA, KPK and Motorways Police. He possesses extensive experience in field and operational policing.
